Planning your project

The details
around the cupboards.

Good joinery needs a clear plan for getting it into the room, fitting it and looking after it. Here's what to work through with me before ordering.

Made for your space.
Delivered flat packed.

Your joinery is made by an Australian manufacturer to the agreed design, ready for you or your installer to fit.

Homeowner orders arrive flat packed, ready for assembly, and a fitting guide is provided with your order. Builders can choose flat packed or pre assembled. Preview the draft fitting guide.

Confirm access, unloading arrangements, storage space and the contents of your order before delivery. The photograph shows an illustrative pack, not the packaging for a particular order.

Two to three weeks from sign off to delivery for standard packages. Up to five weeks for specialist finishes, such as painted or thermolaminated doors.

That is the manufacturing and delivery period. I agree the design timetable separately, after reviewing your brief.

Before you order.

These decisions belong in the agreed design and quote.

What materials and fittings will I receive?

I record the selected door finish, cabinet material, handles and hardware with your design. Discuss shelf use, drawer loads, moisture exposure and any particular needs before the specification is settled.

Website colours are a starting point. The standard door and panel ranges are Polytec and Laminex. I don't send samples: when I meet you in person or measure on site, he brings samples with him. Otherwise, order free samples direct from the Polytec or Laminex websites and confirm the final finish before ordering.

Who measures the room?

Builders can arrange a free site measure or provide signed off measurements and photographs. Homeowner projects follow a separate measuring route, agreed for the project and location.

Record width, available depth and height at several points, along with skirting, power points, doors, windows and other obstructions. Photos help explain the room but do not replace accurate measurements.

Can you deliver to my postcode?

Modulum is Mornington Peninsula based and works with builders across Melbourne. Regional delivery is not yet a standard offer. We need to confirm delivery and any measuring support for your address before you commit.

Do I need an installer?

Homeowner joinery is supplied flat packed, for you or your installer to fit, and a fitting guide is provided with your order. The tools and skills depend on the design and the room, particularly where walls are uneven or cupboards need fixing to them.

Builders can choose flat packed or pre assembled, and can install themselves or discuss me installing as their subcontractor within my local measuring area. Wherever I measure for builders, I install.

What's included in the price?

The final quote comes from the agreed design. Confirm the supplied panels, doors, shelves, drawers and fittings, together with delivery and any installation arrangements. The estimator is a planning example, not a final quote.

Payment is required before manufacture. The homeowner design fee is credited against the joinery order.

What if a part is damaged or missing?

Check your delivery against the parts list when it arrives. If anything is damaged or missing, photograph the part and its packaging and let us know within 48 hours of delivery, so it can be checked against the order and replaced.

What warranty and aftercare are included?

The manufacturer, hardware and any installation work need their applicable warranty and care information confirmed with the final specification. This review website doesn't publish a warranty term that hasn't been agreed.

Ask me to include that information with your quote and keep it with your design pack.

Have a practical question?

A photograph and a short explanation usually make a useful starting point.
